From the grower, Steve & Patricia Florin of Dancing Dear Farm in Williams, Oregon, “I have been growing this Honey Boat Delicata for 14 seasons on our 18.5 acres so I would call it fairly well acclimated to this region. I grow about 1/3 to 1/2 acre per year. There are no other growers except for a couple of home gardeners within 1/2 mile. I only grow one c. pepo every year, but there are occasional off-types. I rogue the off-types and mark the place with a stake and harvest within a 20’ radius of the off-type for market. C. pepo is very difficult to keep pure because of the popularity of other c. pepo in home gardens. I got 5 plants out of 2000 that were off-types, pretty good percentage. I harvest my select seed fruits for size, color, and uniformity as far from any off types as possible and not on the edge of the plot. I would probably call this foundation seed as I am very careful in my selection process.” Tags: Type: Pepo, Color: Bi-Colored, Heritage: Heirloom, Season: Late Summer Fall, Certification: Organic.
