Plants grow up to 3’ tall, but will trail/climb without being planted with grass cover crops, such as oats or wheat. Stems grow 3-6’ long, with 20 or more clusters of flowers. By springtime, purple vetch produces a matted 2’ deep carpet. It is tolerant of grazing, reduces soil temperature slightly, and increases humidity.
