Fish Peppers originated in the Caribbean, and were brought to the U.S. in the 1800s where they grew in popularity in the Philadelphia and Baltimore regions. They were used as an ingredient in seafood dishes, particularly in crab and oyster houses. After a decline in popularity, some restaurants today are using the Fish Pepper again today in the Mid-Atlantic. The pepper plants are very prolific, ripening from green and white white to brown, purple and red. The plants are 2’ tall, and have beautiful foliage- mottled green and white leaves, making them a lovely ornamental. Taste is hot, but not a chili.
